Intersection: 4 Cities 360 People
The Irish have a saying, “a stranger is just a friend you haven’t met yet.”
This fundamental way of thinking is relevant given the global context of the world we now live in. The development of cities, cheaper transportation, advancements in communication have changed how we meet people.
Spanning a course of four years, 2000-2004, Cynthia Tuan documented her encounters as a method of chronicling the people she’d meet.
This book has a second compendium that's attached to its spine. Intersection: 360 People/4 Cities folds out to reveal all the people documented; who influenced the main book. It loosely functions as a key to the preceding chapter.
During this time, completing graduate studies in Basel, Switzerland. This collection went on to become a book using graphical abstractions of accumulated data. The data encompass thousands of crossed paths. The dynamics of connections are explored using typography and semiotics, and black-and-white statistical facts are translated into colorful narrative dialogues which reflect the designer's own cultural landscape.
Intersection: 4 Cities/360 Cities wins one of the Most Beautiful Swiss Books Award in 2004.
